Wales travel to Bulgaria this evening.
Welsh football is on the up. A dismal start to Euro 2012 qualifying saw John Toshack relieved of his role as manager and Gary Speed appointed. The former Leeds United, Newcastle and Everton star has brought energy to the national side and his young players have finally started performing as a team, with two successive wins over Montenegro and Stwitzerland making people notice Wales for the first time since Mark Hughes was in charge.
The likes of Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey, Joe Allen and Joe Ledley are players that will form the spine of the Welsh national side for the next ten years and that will surely be a period in which Wales qualify for a major tournament. Euro 2012 is, however, unfortunately out of reach.
That means that Tuesday's qualifier with Bulgaria is something of a meaningless match but Speed will be eager to maintain the momentum built up over the past month. It is 3/1, at
bet365, that the visitors win in Sofia and that could be a price worth taking, considering how poor the home side have been in this campaign.
Bulgaria have taken just five points from their seven matches and have played miserably, failing to net a single goal in front of their own fans. They did beat Wales in Cardiff, which explains their odds of 10/11, but that match was over a year ago and the Dragons are much improved since then. They can be expected to gain revenge on Tuesday.
