Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been keen to play down the hype surrounding the Red Devils incredible start to the Premier League season, which has seen the reigning champions win all four of their opening matches, scoring 18 goals in the process.

"The quality of our play has been superb, but it's a young squad and you can't judge a team after four games,” said the Scot.

The first major test of the young squad’s credentials will come on Sunday, when Manchester United host Chelsea in the Premier League, and if the home side win at Old Trafford, even Ferguson may find it difficult to dampen optimism in the North West.

The likes of Tom Cleverley, Ashley Young and Javier Hernandez are exciting talents who, along with Wayne Rooney and Nani, get fans out of their seats and that is something that both Manchester United supporters and neutrals can both appreciate.

It will not, however, be appreciated by Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas, who has made a solid, if unspectacular start to his career in England. The Portuguese, who himself is often described as a hot young talent, is the Premier League’s youngest ever manager, at just 33 years old.

Villas-Boas has so far dealt reasonably well with the pressures that come with that title but whether he can come out of a head-to-head with Sir Alex Ferguson remains to be seen. Much will depend on the form of his Spanish duo Juan Mata and Fernando Torres, who have had very differing starts to the season.

The former was Chelsea’s headline summer signing, moving from Valencia for €25 million. The 23-year-old has already scored two goals for his new side and he looks to be a perfect fit at Stamford Bridge, offering some much needed invention and creativity to an aging Blues squad.

Torres, by contrast, has yet to score this term and he is in serious of joining the likes of Andrey Shevchenko, Juan Sebastian Veron and Yuri Zhirkov as big money mistakes, signed by the club’s owner, Roman Abramovich, rather than the manager.

The Spaniard will, however, be given another opportunity to prove himself in the Theatre of Dreams this Sunday and Chelsea fans will be hoping that he can help to both end the increasing optimism at Old Trafford and start creating a buzz in West London.
