QPR v Wolves betting latest

Matthew Glazier - 3 Dec 2008

After losing 5-2 at Norwich on 21st October, Mick McCarthy’s team enjoyed a seven-match winning run, which was only brought to an end by last weekend’s 1-1 draw at home to Birmingham. Nevertheless, they have firmly demonstrated their promotion credentials, and could prove popular (6/4 Boylesports) to win Saturday’s televised clash at Loftus Road.

It’s certainly worth bearing in mind that whenever Wolves hit the road, there are likely to be goals in store. No less than forty have been scored in their ten away matches, with nine of them resulting in three goals or more. Totesport’s quote of 10/11 could therefore be a spot of value. Another interesting stat is that the league leaders have only kept one away clean sheet all season, so correct score wagers of 2-1 (9/1 Skybet) and 3-1 (20/1 bet365) could well land you in the money. They have managed the latter three times on their travels already this term.

What about QPR, one of the pre-season favourites for the Championship? They’re a pretty tough nut to crack at home, winning seven of their ten matches, which explains why the bookmakers respect them enough to go 7/4 (Ladbrokes) about them winning. However, new manager Paulo Sousa is still finding his feet at the west London club, and it’s possible that they may struggle to contain the visitors’ firepower.

Chris Iwelumo and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake have managed twenty-five goals between them already, and they’re (13/2 bet365) and 11/2 (Blue Square) respectively to break the deadlock in this game. It’s the former who has opened the scoring in Wolves’ last four away matches, suggesting that he should be the preference for this game. The Hoops have managed a far more modest sixteen goals in their ten home matches to date, although Dexter Blackstock has eight for the season, and he’s 13/2 (Paddy Power) to put the home side into the lead.cham
