The 2011 Shanghai Masters is now underway, with 32 of the world's best players heading to China for the second ranking event of the season.

The event has been a regular fixture on the Snooker calendar since 2007 and highlights the growing popularity of the sport in Asia.

An array of top stars will battle it out for the £65,000 first prize and all important ranking points that will significantly affect the world rankings.

Day one features a number of qualifiers, all looking to cause an upset in front of their home crowd in the wildcard round.

Snooker Shootout winner Nigel Bond faces commentators nightmare Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon, with impressive youngster Jack Lisowski also attempting to book his place in the last 32.

Day two sees the top seeds enter the frame for round one, with defending champion Ali Carter beginning his campaign against Mark King.

Ronnie O'Sullivan, Shaun Murphy, Stephen Hendry and Mark Selby are all in action, but await their opponents from the Wildcard round.

The pick of Wednesday's matches sees attacking sensation Judd Trump against Australian Open winner and recent father Stuart Bingham.

The Chinese Dragon Ding Junhui will also take to the baize looking to impress in front of an expectant crowd against veteran Martin Gould.

World Champion and tournament favourite John Higgins faces a tough opener against recent PTC 4 runner up Mark Davis.

The tournament will be played from Monday September 5-11 at the Grand Stage in Shanghai.
